Last Blog!!

At the beginning of class we were asked to create a blog. The blog was designed to post our assignments and our opinions. We were given many different assignments that were each different in their own way.

 Our first assignment was self exploration.  This assignment was basically to tell about ourselves. This assignment included who we are, what we like to do, and life after college. I enjoyed this assignment because we got a chance to reflect over our lives, and wanted we wanted to do in the future.  I went into details about my future and basically where I wanted to be in the next few years. Of course my number one goal right now is to finish school, but I also hope one day to own my own business.  I also expressed in this assignment my love for fashion.  I do have a great love for fashion and creativity.  I have always wanted to become a fashion designer and I also loved to draw different things.  In high school I was very involved in my drawing class coming up with different ideas and projects. In the end this assignment allowed me to reflect on my life and the things that I enjoy.

The next assignment we had to blog about was the fashion detox.  This was one of the most challenging assignments.  We had to go one month without buying anything dealing with clothes, shoes, and accessories.  Being that I am a lover of fashion this was a difficult task.  The first and the last week was the hardest to me.   In the first week it seemed like I just had the urge to buy any and everything.  It was hard to tell myself no.  I had a few friends to help and encourage me throughout the detox.  In the last week I almost bought a pair of shoes. I decided not to buy them because I had worked so hard during that month of the detox.  This assignment really taught me a lot.  I learned how much unnecessary stuff that I buy. A lot of times we buy things that we see, we don’t necessarily need them.  During the month of the detox, I tried my best to only buy things that I need, not the things that I want.  The detox also helped me to save a lot of money.  You really don’t spend much when you buy the thing that you need, and not a lot of unnecessary stuff.

The next assignment was the prezi. Prezi is a creative way to do projects and presentations.  It is kind of like PowerPoint.  We had to post our prezi assignment in our blog.  I decided to do my prezi on my dream job and my major.  My major is advertisings so I wanted to give information on that.  In the presentation I told what was advertising and why did I chose that major.  I also list a few jobs that advertising has to offer.  I love my major because you get to be creative and create different add covers and layouts. 

We also had to blog about the book we were assigned to read which was called Enchantment.  This book basically taught how you can become a better employee and or a better boss.   Throughout the book it taught a lot of different techniques.  The spoke about what you should and should not do.  Social media is something that was discussed because it is widely used. The book talked about things that you should not say on social media.  It also talked about ways that you can be enchanting on social media. 

Another huge assignment we had to blog about was the spending analysis.  For about a month we had to keep up with our spending. We had to blog each week about our spending, and how much money we spend on different things. I realized that majority of my money goes to food.  Even when I have food in my apartment I still go out to buy food.  While doing the spending analysis I started to figure out ways that I can better save my money.  I came up with different plans and ideas.  We also had to do an info graphics on our spending.  In the info graphics we had to talk about how much we spend each week and what our money goes too. Because of this assignment I do think that I have become a better spender.  I have learned the importance of saving money.

We also did a blog on Cotton University.  We had to do a critique on the website. Overall I thought that the website was pretty good.  It was very professional and also very organized. I rated the website very high, it was easy to navigate and understand.  Another assignment we had been on poll daddy.  We basically had to post a poll and let people vote on what they like.

Another big assignment we had to do was the AR project.  This assignment we had to make a logo using a layer.  I decided to do my logo on the future boutique I would like.  This assignment was fun to create.  We also had to do an assignment on a slogan we liked.  My slogan was “love it, change it, and leave it.” I really like this slogan because it says a lot about life and certain situations.

Overall I really enjoyed the blogging assignment.  It allowed me to keep up with my thought and ideas. I also like how we learned how to post our different assignments.  Because of the blogging assignment, I have created my very own hair blog.  My blog has reached over 1,200 viewers.  This class has taught me a lot and allowed me to be able to work different technologies. 

I would not change anything about the class or our assignments.  I have learned a lot over the semester. I have learned a lot about myself and also my career.  I think that the blog was a great experience.

AR Project!!

Enchantment Discussion

Enchantment is basically about enchanting people.  It teaches how to enchant your boss or your employers.  It gives a lot of examples. Each chapter has a new topic with a variety of things on how to enchant.  One of my favorite chapters from the book was chapter two.  This chapter was about how to achieve likability.  This was good because it’s important that your boss and people around you to like you.

I would have to admit that I like the book. At first I did not read it much, but once I started I enjoyed it. The book has so much good information in it. This book can really change how people will perceive you. It will also teach you how to become more enchanted.  No matter what is your major or what type of job you have this book can help you.  The more I read the more I understood the importance of keeping a good image.  The book teaches the importance of keeping your social media appropriate.  It is not good to talk about things that would not enchant your boss or others.  I don’t have really any bad critiquing on the book. It was good overall.

I would recommend this book to anyone. Especially if you are interested on becoming a better employee or ways to enchant people this is the book for you.  I think if you actually sit and read the book you will enjoy it a lot.  I also will recommend it even if you have a higher position at work.  It can help you to be enchanting to others. Not only does it teach how to enchant your boss but it teaches how bosses can enchant their employees.

A book I would recommend is a book called “How to Win friends and influence People” by Dale Carnegie.

 

AR Project discussion

I enjoyed doing the AR project.  I got the opportunity to make and come up with a creative logo.  The logo took some thought.  I wanted a logo that was for my boutique that I plan to have in the future.  This AR assignment was a good way to teach us how to make logos and be creative.

The one thing i liked about the project was that it taught me something new.  I did enjoy creating it on inkscape.  After I finished my design I loved it.
The one thing that was kinda difficult was thinking of  a new design.  I had trouble trying to figure out something that I wanted to do.  Like the font and getting the logo image together.

Overall the AR project was pretty cool.  This was the first time I made a logo. We talked about it in a few of my classes and overall all it was okay. I would rate my logo a 7.  I do hope to get better at creating logos and a better design.  After this assignment I hope to better my logo

Spending Analysis

Spending Analysis

The spending analysis was a great project. I used three steps to better my spending. These steps helped me to put my needs first and my wants second.  I researched a few ideas and picked what I thought was best for me.

The first step I chose was to keep note of my spending.  I wanted to know how much I was spending on unnecessary things.  The number one thing that I was spending my money on was food.  I was eating out all day and buying unnecessary junk food.  After I realized what I was spending my money on I decided to try to change it.

The second step I made sure I took care of all my needs which were my rent and bills. I made sure after I got paid, I took care of my important bills first. I also wrote down the important items I needed for the month. I calculated all of my important expenses.

The third step was deducted all the important things.  After I took care of all of my important expenses, I calculated what I had left.  That money I put half of it to the side.  Which was my savings account? If I had anything left, I would then buy something I want.  I also started to purchase lunch food so that I can decrease the amount of fast food that I spent.

Overall the spending analysis taught me a lot about the importance of spending.  I am now doing a better job at keeping up with my expenses.  I decreased the amount of unnecessary. I stop doing a lot of extra shopping and buying unnecessary food.  I keep note of my spending in my notes. I also keep tract of my bank account statements so that I know how much money is in my account.

The Last Chapter!!!

 Chapter 12 discusses how to resist Enchantment.  The first topic in this chapter discusses how to avoid tempting situations.  Not everyone is an ethical enchanter.  And some people don’t have some things in your best interest according to the book.  You should avoid situations that may tempt you into doing something that may not be in your best interest. 

Another topic discussed was look far into the future. You should see how different situation will impact your future.  You should also consider the impact your current actions will make in a year or more. Negative outcomes according to the book will waste your time. 

It is also good to track previous decisions.  Before making final decisions, is says that you should ask yourself questions first. One question it said that you can ask is “What happened when I did something like this before.” Depending on your answer you should know if you making a bad or good decision.  It can also be a good idea to keep a written journal of your decisions.  The book talks about if you maybe fail at one decision that you may be able to learn from it.  I like this topic because it teaches you that it may be okay if you weren’t good at making decisions the first time, but you can learn from it.

 

One of my favorite topics from this chapter is how to let you be enchanted in small ways.  “By giving in to small enchantments, you can save your resistance for the decisions that can affect your life in serious ways.” The book stated that if you find joy in small enchantments, that it reduces the seeming importance of the big, risky, and expensive ones. 

Another great thing is to create a checklist.  Having a checklist helps you to make good decisions.

This Blog discusses Chapter 10 and 11

Chapter ten discusses how to enchant your employees. The part of the chapter I liked the most was how to empower the employees to do the right thing.  It stated how your best employee wants to serve and delight your customers.  Money should not be their only motivation.  They should know and want to be able to take care of the customer.  You can teach your employee how to treat the customer well by telling them how to do the right thing. 

Another top chapter ten discussed was on SUCK IT UP!  This is basically teaching employees how to deal with stress and other outside distractions.  In certain situations, you just have to suck thing up and deal with it. 

Chapter 11 discus how to enchant your boss.  This out of all the chapters is the number one thing I was really interest in reading.  One thing that is important is to make your boss look good. The book talked about if your boss looks good, then you look good.  You should also drop everything and do what your boss says to do.  It does matter what they ask, you should do what they ask.  Also it’s good to form a friendship with your boss.  Having a friendship makes you more efficient and effective.

Another topic I like in the book was on how to present bad news to your boss.  You should present the news in advance and sometimes you may have to even take the blame for the problem.  Also if you can try to find solution for the problems.  Although there may be a bad situation, it’s always good to try to find a way to fix.  They may impress your boss and show that you really care about the situation that’s going on.  Being able to take the blame and fix it will enchant your boss.

HEYYYYYYY Bloggers!!!!

This cotton university assignment was very interesting and I received allot of information.  Because I am Fashion Merchandising minor I was really interested in the Garment Manufacturing.

The Garment Manufacturing course taught you the history and information of the creating of garments.  This video teaches how manufactures create patterns and how body measurements are taken to fit body forms. Before you get stated on making the actual garment, you must get the proper measurements and also perform what is known as Marker Making

  

Basically the marker making is a special kind of stencil that illustrates how pattern pieces of one or more garments should be cut from several layers of fabric.  This is very important while getting ready to construct the garment.  We also learn the cutting methods.  Before the workers began to cut the garment, they must first make sure that the fabric is properly arranged.

It’s a lot of steps before actually making a garment!!!

This video taught me a lot about manufacturing and the process of creating garments.  There is a lot of work that is put in before a master piece is created.  I did not know that there was such a long process.  After viewing the video I had a lot of questions.  This video helped me to understand some of the processes of garment making. 

I can definitely use this in my career.  I am currently an Advertising major and I minored in fashion merchandising because I wanted to advertise clothes and well known business.  The information allowed me to see how manufactures create the clothing that goes in many of the clothing stores and how they are constructed.  I also had dreams of becoming a fashion designer.  This video will also be beneficial because it teaches how to create the clothing.

Chapter 8 was on how to push technology. It teaches how to use presentations, e-mail, and twitter to enchant people. This chapter teaches general principles. Its important to respond quickly. Being able to respond quickly is enchanting. It is also important to treat everybody the same. No matter how rich or poor, everyone should be treated with the same respect. You should engage often. The book talks about how talking to someone only a few times want enchant people. The book teaches that the more media you have the more enchanting you will be. Its also good to have value. Have inspiring and entertaining content.
The chapter also speaks on presentations. It is good to be a great speaker and never boring. You have to be able to enchant you audience. E-mail is now one of the most common way to connect with others. Its important to get a real e-mail with a good address. You should use a professional address. Certain media like twitter is good to have. Its good to tweet good things like "top jobs in the U.S" or cool websites. Twitter is also good to help promote business.

Chapter 9 teachs how to pull technogloy. This chapter talks about web sites and blogs. They are both a good way to put out information and advertise different businesses. It can be a good way to enchant others. It is important to provide good content. You should be careful what you post, because you dont want to post things that are not enchanting. It is good to post grahics and pictures on your website. Facebook is also a widely used way of connecting with others. You can add different friends and use it as a way to network to others.

This blog is created to do an evaluation on Cotton University.

The website was very easy to determine the content. It was pretty straight forward. The information was clear and very easy to read. The authors gave correct and great information. I did not find a contact adress available to verify inforamation.
I love how the website gave the latest information and the date last revised.
also I liked how they gave proper links to other sites.
The quality was good. The website appeared complete and working. Everythig seemed organized and and information was related to the right needs and purposes. Overall the Content was very good. The website was very professional and good to read.

Not only did I evaluate the content, but I also evaluated the design. The speed was fast. It was easy to work and tell what site I was on. The copyright was also clear. The websit also gave good directions. I love the colors and graphics. The website was well designed and also clear. I was surprised how well organized the website was. There was no out-dated information. The date of the last version was clearly labeled.
Overall the website was good. I have visited cotton university a few times and loved it

Spending Analysis$

This activity helps us to keep up with the spending of Money. For the next few weeks we are to blog
are spending. I have recently been taking into consideration the amount of money I spend a week. I spend majority of my money on
unnecessary food and clothing.
Hopefully by doing this activity I can limit the amount of money I spend. I hope to change my habits and develop better ways of saving my money. In college you are very limited to money and the older I get the more responsibilities I have. As I mentioned before majority of my money goes to food. I need to make a list of the food that I need and only purchase those food items. I noticed I eat out a lot. It may be a lot cheaper if I start preparing my own lunch.
I also spend unnecessary money on clothing. But with the Fashion Detox assignment it kind of helped me to say no. I know try to only buy the things that I need. I am nervous about using excel. Excel is not something I am strong at doing, but I am sure that it will not be too bad.

We are recently started using info graphics in one of my other classes. I am excited about using it. Infographics gives you a visual way to process different information. I think that info graphics will help me see the amount of money I am spending by using graphs and charts. I am a visual learner so i will like this method alot.
I do hope this activity helps me to change my spending habits. I hope to become a better spender and be able to spend money wisely.
I hope to learn how to only buy things of importance and budget my money.

Article Review

The first article I read was about technology taking the place of current jobs. I agree and disagree on the topic.
The reason I agree is because some technology has taken jobs. Back in the later years a lot of jobs were controlled by men. Many factories had men to work in them and create and control many things. As technology advances some of those jobs have been replaced by robots and machines. Since technology has advanced, it has helped to speed up the process of creating goods and products.

The reason I don’t agree is because there has to be someone to control the technology and make sure it is going as planned. That’s when they need to hire someone. Although technology is good to have, it sometimes causes glitches and need someone to fix them. So although technology has replaces some jobs, it also need someone to make sure everything is going as planned.

The second article was about social media. There were also other articles related to social media also. The first article I read was on managing your social media. Social media can be a great way to advertise you business is special events. Social media is a great way to help a business but it can also hurt someone. It is important to now post or say any inappropriate things on social media. I also read in an article how you can use social media to help find jobs. By using media like LinkedIn can help you build your resume and also put your name out there. It is also a good thing to connect with Google. One article discussed morality and political issues. Although we all share the freedom of speech it’s important to sometimes watch what you say on certain social sites.
Social Media has helped so many people over the years. It also has given people the ability to network and find different jobs.

Today I want to share a little knowledge about chapters 5-6 of Enchantment.

Chapter Five
This chapter was basically about storytelling and how to get people to consider embracing you. Story telling allows someone to know more about you and not just alot of information.
It also talks about planting seedds. This means to influence others. Just dont go to interview with just information, but present yourself on a personal level also. This chapter teach also how to gain your followers, what employers are looking for and what should you look for.
Chapter Six
This chpater is on how to overcome resistance. Sometimes people are scared to make choices due to failure. The chapter discusses fear of making a mistake. The book stated that some believe that if you do not make a choice, you cant make a mistkae. This chapter also discuss providing social proof. Social proof is the concept that if other prople are doing something then it must bo OK,right, cool, and maybe even optimal. Creating the perception of Ubiquity and creating the perception of scarcity is also mentioned in this chapter.

I have high hopes to one day open up my own hair and clothing boutique. The fashion industry has always been a passion of mine. I also enjoy styling hair and installing hair exstensions. I hope to first start off with my clothing boutique. I hope to name it "Fab Boutique". I have not planned out everything just yet. But I do have in mind what I would like to do.


My Story!!




I was literally born prissy,girly,a diva, ANYTHING that was for little girls I had to have it. At the age of only three I wanted to be Fabulous. I was always walking around in my mother's heels playing dress up. So yeah, fashion has always been a passion of mine. Around the 8th grade I found a new love which was art. My art teacher sparked an interest in drawing in me and I loved it. I began drawing and designing clothes. Once I was taught the basics of art my imagination ran wild. I was always eager to draw and design anything.

When I got into college I did not choose the major I wanted. I basically chose majors that my parents wanted me to have, and I HATED it. I quickly started exploring different majors and changed it to something I love. I am currently an Advertising major with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. I love the major I chose because It gives me the ability to design and use my creative skills. And of course I greatly enjoy my minor because it is definatly a passion of mine.

Im on a long road to success and I am learning everyday. I can honestly say I feel positive about my career and have hopes of becoming the person I know I can be. You are looking at the next Oparh!!!!! :)

Ending the Fashion Detox

YAY!!!! The Fashion Detox is officially Over!! This was a difficult four weeks. This was a fun, yet challenging activity. Not being able to purchase any clothing items was difficult. The first week went okay. The second week also wasn’t too bad. The third week was very challenging. During the third week I was very close to purchasing a watch. It took everything in me to not get it. After going weeks without shopping, I felt weak. Although I wanted to give up, I fought the urge to shop. This week wasn’t too bad. This was the last week, I felt relieved that it was almost over. I also have plans on buying as soon as this week is over. FINAL COMMENTS I am glad that I did well on the Fashion Detox. I survived the four weeks. It was fun to keep up with my thoughts and to blog. Each week got a little difficult. Sometimes I forgot about the detox and was close to buying a few items. What helped out a lot was staying from the mall. It also helped to stay away from online clothing sites. This activity taught me how to limit my spending. This activity helped out a lot. I am daily trying to cut down on how much I spend. I even tried hiding my credit card and cash. The best thing is to put your priorities first. It’s not very important to buy clothes and shoes. This detox taught me how sometimes I waist my money. I buy things I really don’t need. This detox also reminds me of how much I spend on food. I am trying to limit the amount of money I spend on food also. I’m glad I saved money on the fashion detox. THIS COMPLETES MY FASHION DETOX BLOG HOPE YOU ENJOYED!!!

Fashion Detox Update

Weekly Update!!! Soooo I am dying to buy something!! I am seriously getting weak. This will make the fourth week that we have been on the fashion detox. I did have been doing pretty good. But each week gets harder. I believe this week has been the hardest. I have been dying to buy a watch, and I was very tempted. Im looking forward to completing the fashion detox. I did think it was a good activity. I really have realized how much I want to buy unnecessary stuff. I hope I do not cheat!! I would like to conquer the Challenge!!

Fashion Detox

WEEK THREE This week was a challenging week. It was very hard to fight the temptation to shop. Although I have recently had the urge to shop, I have been doing pretty well. I have not bought anything yet. It has been a few times I have gone to the mall. I also have visited online clothing stores. The times I did go to the mall, I did not bring my wallet. I would purposely leave my wallet at home. I have saved a few dollars this week also. I usually buy a random top or accessories. I feel as though I am going to do good with the fashion detox. I have set my mind on only buying the things that I need. This Tuesday I went into Eve Maries to do a project and almost picked up a pair of earrings. I was tempted to ask my friend to pay for them, and I would pay her back. But she helped me. My friend told me to put them back. It is good to have a friend to help. Because she was there I did not cheat. Overall this was a successful week. I hope to do good for the upcoming week. I decided not to visit any stores. Hopefully by staying away from shopping outlets I want have the urge to shop. I also decided if I do have to visit a store, to take a friend. Hopefully the more I say not to shopping the easier it will become. If I do well with the fashion detox, I will reward myself. I have decided to save my money for something I really want. After the detox is over I will purchase the item that I want. This has helped me by thinking of my reward. Ready for WEEK THREE!!

Fashion Detox

I have mixed emotions about the fashion detox assignment. I am sad about not being able to buy any clothing or accessory items for the next month, but I'm looking forward to saving myself a lot of MONEY!! I believe this is a good assignment because it allows you to see that maybe we buy more stuff than we actually need. I spend allot of unnecessary money. I believe this assignment will allow me to realize what is important and what is not. I do understand this will be a challenge. I have the daily desire to online shop, or sometimes pick up a shirt or two. But to be honest, most of my money goes to food. I kind of wish this was a fast food detox. I hope all the money I am saving from buying clothing, I don’t spend it all on food. As I stated before, I do hope to save a few dollars. I also hope to gain control on how to spend my money. I am a fashion lover, so it is really hard to say no to certain clothing items and accessories. Hopefully I am able to say that I conquered the fashion detox challenge. To help me with this assignment, I plan on staying away from the mall. I also plan on staying away from online fashion sites so that I want be tempted. If I do get the urge to shop, I decided to call my grandmother. She is always calling and reminding me to save money. I believe if I call her she will be able to stop me, and encourage me NOT spend. I also want to keep myself busy. Maybe if I stay busy I want have the urge to shop or purchase unnecessary items. BRING ON THE CHALLENGE

Self- Exploration
 
I would like to think of myself as outgoing, ambitious,  and a huge dreamer.  I love to explore, take on different challenges and create different goals and achieve them (of course).  I enjoy meeting and being around different people, and I am definitely a team player. I am a dependable person because I  know how it feels not  to have someone to depend on.  I believe its important to set a good example  and be the one people can talk and go  to about  any situation.  I'm good at decision-making but not so good at problem solving.  I think of a million ideas a day, which sometimes can be good and  sometimes bad.   I believe that I have great verbal skills because of my love of communicating and meeting new people.  I see myself in the future working for a fashion magazine and expanding my creative ability.  I also see myself getting involved with my community, which is something I greatly enjoy.  I asked a close friend what is her job like and does she enjoy  it?  She replied that she greatly enjoys her job, but she have her bad days.  Sometimes it gets really overwhelming and  get busy at times.
 My ideal job of course would to be working for an advertising agency, or anything job dealing with FASHION.  I would enjoy working for a fashion magazine or become a clothing buyer for a department store.  If  I take on any internships and gain as much experience as possible, I can possibly get the job I want straight out of college.  I would first like to work for a small fashion industry to gain experience and then climb the latter to work for a bigger corporation.  I would love to travel to different states and countries.  I would love to travel to California, New York, Texas, Washington, Paris, and China.  Salary of course is something to thing about.  Its important in any job that you chose to make a good source of income that includes benefits.  I would love to work with a variety of people, sharing common goals but may have different ideas.  I think I would enjoy working with a casual or a team atmosphere.  I believe in this environment I would be comfortable and it would allow me to perform well.  Although I have many plans and ideas, I'm always open to new things.  Life is not always how you want it to be and you do not always receive what you want BUT with great determination I truly believe I CAN achieve any goal.

Introduction

My name is Alexis Patterson.  I attend the University of Southern Mississippi.  I am a Advertising major with a minor in Fashion Merchandising.  Fashion is definitely a PASSION of mine.  I am a lover of vintage fashion, and I plan on expressing and sharing my love of vintage clothing through my blog.  This blog was created for one of my classes, and I hope to create an enjoyable blog that I can share with others.  I also hope to communicate with others who also have an interest in fashion and share different ideas.
